MATCH POINT

EKS is looking forward to the penultimate round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Estering. In Buxtehude Mattias Ekström can secure his first ever FIA world champion title. In the drivers’ standings the Swede is 27 points ahead of compatriot Johan Kristoffersson. “"There is still a long way to go",” says Ekström. "“A total of 60 points are still up for grabs at the last two rounds. One mistake and the lead could be gone in a blink of an eye.”" The World RX title would also be something special for Audi Sport. In 2012 and 2013, the Audi teams in the FIA WEC celebrated their triumph in the drivers’ classification. The last title for a single Audi driver was 32 years ago. In 1984 Stig Blomqvist won the World Rally Championship (WRC) in the Audi quattro. “"Stig drove to the title with the Audi quattro and in the WEC the Audi R18 e-tron quattro was successful",” says Ekström, "“now I have a chance to add a chapter to this success story with my Audi S1 EKS RX quattro."” Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen also has a clear aim. Bring back home as many points as possible for the teams’ championship. “"We top the standings with an eight point gap on Team Peugeot-Hansen", said Heikkinen, "and we will push hard to leave Germany for the last round in Argentina in the same position". Heikkinen has secured spots in the semi-final at eight of the ten events.
